EDUC 730 - Monday Reflections

One thing I heard today was that we would begin the week feeling overwhelmed.  I must admit, that statement was  right on target!  Several times during the day and during our group meeting this afternoon, I was feeling overwhelmed with the beginnings of a migraine, issues facing our family and loved ones at home, and , of course, EDUC 730 coursework.  However, each time I was overwhelmed, we prayed, someone shared a passage of Scripture that spoke to me, or I turned to the Word.  Every time, I found peace.  I am so thankful to be a student at LUO right now!  Being surrounded by Believers makes all the difference.

I appreciate the members of our group and how we support each other.  Initially, it was a challenge to figure out where we needed to go.  After our group prayed together, we witnessed a change.  Mike B. prayed we would be able to understand each other, and the Lord was faithful.  We began to have common thoughts and ideas, which made a major difference in our collaboration.  As a side note, my headache eased off so I could focus on the task at hand.

Another idea that resonated with me today was questioning why are we in our programs of study.  We heard from Dr. Holder to make sure we seek an EdD for the right reasons, not just a pay raise.  We also discussed this briefly within our group.  It left me thinking about my own journey as a student.  I love to learn.  However, I struggle with balancing family, work, and school work.  I may be the only student in class who is working on an EdS right now.  After this class, assuming I pass, I will be two courses from completion of the EdS.  I am still unsure if the Lord is leading me to continue into the EdD program.  I wrestle with discerning His will versus seeking my own way.  I want to follow the Lord, so I will continue to pray about this.

I was left with a few questions...What should we do with the padlet wall link in Blackboard Announcements?  Do we follow the timeframe in Blackboard or on the Syllabus for assignments?

In closing, this is the first time I have been in a traditional classroom setting as a student for some time.  After this day, I am reminded how much I do not know and the value of face to face interactions with colleagues.  The people in our class have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.  I thank the Lord for each of you!
