  2. Hi Kim,
Your research topic is extremely relevant to the direction print resources in education are moving. Individual preferences regarding e-books is interesting overall, and be specifically examining textbooks, you will surely uncover a great deal of data. I am an early adopter of technology and consider myself quite tech-savvy. I love to read books on my Kindle or iPad for pleasure, and have downloaded several textbooks. I find that digital texts are more difficult to use because of the lack of tactile abilities. I prefer to mark, make notes, highlight, dog-ear pages, and affix post-it tabs when reading educational material. Because of the cumbersome nature of flipping back and forth through e-book pages, I become frustrated with them. That said, as you indicated in your post, the cost of e-texts can be significantly less and often is the determining factor in my decision to go with the print or digital versions of books.

    1. Jill,

Surprisingly, there is little data available concerning efficacy of e-textbooks. What is available centers mainly around research using static computer screens rather than handheld mobile devices. This research addresses both of these areas and included students at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. The reasons you give for using print versions resonate with those from study participants.

  3. Hi Kim! I agree with Jen that this is a definite hot topic today in technology in education. Although I am a huge fan of reading a 'real' book, I enjoy the convenience of using e-textbooks for my schoolwork. Without my CourseSmart app on my iPhone I would have been lost many times since my time for reading textbooks are frequently found while at work or out of my home when I might not have my actual textbook with me. Great topic!

    1. I love e-books and would love to have electronic textbooks available for my coursework. I began using Evernote to organize research articles I have downloaded. Then, I discovered the Evernote app for handheld devices. I appreciated having the articles available on multiple devices that can go with me, as opposed to paper copies or bulky textbooks, This was such a valuable resource that I'm hoping to be able to use e-textbooks in the future.:)
