EDUC 630 Online Communities

Reflect on your own participation in online communities (where do you go?  what do you do?  what does your family do?)
About five years ago, I started with online communities using MySpace.  I set up "my space" but I found it was not very interactive.  Then, I heard deejays on local Christian radio taking about Twitter and Facebook.  I gave both of them a try.
Facebook is the only one I am still using.  I go on Facebook a few times a week when I'm busy; once a week if I'm really busy!  I read what high school classmates, friends, family, and co-workers are doing.  and checked Facebook.  I just opened a new tab and checked out Facebook; I found out my niece is getting married Saturday!  It was a sudden decision, but a few days of not logging in left me in the dark!   Sometimes I post what's going on in my life and pictures.  I try to be careful, though.  I see friends posting where they're going on vacation, but I'm too cautious to post those things until I get back home.  A lot of my friends are believers so I post prayer requsts and respond to their prayer requests.
My family, especially my daughters, are really into Facebook.  They log in almost daily.  One of our sons only goes onto Facebook every other month or so, while the other one is on several times a week.  I set up a Facebook for my husband.  He almost never "drives" the computer to check it; a bad experience with unwanted popups in 2002 left him with a bad taste for computers. and the Internet.  Every so often, maybe once every six months, I'll check his account while he looks over my shoulder to see what's been posted or who has sent a friend request.
