Hi Kimberly! It is great to share another class with you. I agree that as teachers we should give hooks. It is so important for students to have something to help pull them into the material and engage in learning. I also agree that the environment should not overwhelm but create some challenges for all students. Students who have to work a little harder will grow in knowledge and self confidence.
I will guess that you have not been married for 25 years yet. Although all of your statements were very convincing, that is my best guess. I look forward to the next eight weeks together!
It's great to meet you, Kim. I enjoyed your introduction very much. Since your profile indicates that you are just approaching your 20th anniversary, I would venture to say the statement about being married for 25 years is the untruth.
I found it interesting that you mentioned encouraging students to utilize prior knowledge in understanding new information. As someone with a great interest in adult learning models, I have read quite a bit about Malcolm Knowles and his theories. One of his theories, regarding the adult learner, emphasizes the importance of applying prior knowledge to new content areas and recognizing the relevance of experience.
I'm looking forward to working with you throughout this course.
You are both right! My husband and I will celebrate 20 years of marriage this year.
@ Cecelia - Thanks for calling me Kimberly now (since you knew me "way back when" I used to go by Kim)! :) I'm glad we're in class again!! I'm trying to remember if we ever had Coach Harsha's class together or any other classes.
